Abstract

Breastfeeding can reduce child mortality and have long-term benefits. However, the lack of exclusive breastfeeding contributes to the death of children under the age of five years old. The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Samarinda City is 60.87%, not meeting the target of the strategic plan of the ministry of health which is 80%. Research purpose: To determine the effectiveness of text messages on puerperal women to enhance breastfeeding knowledge, attitude and behavior. Research method: The research type was quasi experiment design using pretest and posttest on intervention and control groups. The research samples were 60 1-6 weeks postpartum women collected by consecutive sampling. The data was collected from a questionnaire, statistical data analysis using paired t-test, independent t-test, and MANOVA. Results: The research results of the control and intervention groups showed no difference in knowledge with a p-value of 0.097 while there was a difference in attitude with a p-value of 0.005 and there was a difference in behavior with a p-value of 0.000. Conclusion: the text message was effective, resulting in no difference in knowledge and differences in attitude and behavior in control and intervention grou
